What to Expect?

I love this picture of Marin leaning over to browse through "What to Expect in the First Year." I don't know what I was expecting but I'm sure glad I got you!

Happy 4th Arrival Day

Abby arrived at our house and into our family on Saint Patrick's Day 2007. This past week, we noted Abby 4th Arrival Day. We don't know her birthday (sometime in February) so we think of her arrival day as a birthday-like event. Here is Abby on her morning walk last Thursday. We love Abby so much we are willing to wake up very early to walk her. Plus , if we don't walk her she tends to turn into a tupperware-eating machine. Walking Down Memory Lane in My Wedding Gown

My department at work - the marketing department - was preparing for an event this past Friday. Late in the day, the preparations started to die down and our thoughts turned to the upcoming weekend and more personal matters. I found myself alone with the two gals in the department who are engaged. So naturally the topic turned to weddings. One gal is well into preparations for what sounds like a lovely event in Maine this September. The other was just starting her planning. They new engagee would like to get married in Boston so she said "I've been meaning to ask you a few questions..." and then I was suddenly throw back 5 years to my wedding and the preparations for it. We discussed receptions sites, churches, trolleys, catering, my decision to not have a wedding cake (insert gasp!) and on and on. Coincidentally, the September bride asked me earlier in the day where I had bought my wedding band because she wanted a similar one. I loved chatting with them about what I did, what they want to do and all of the exciting things ahead of them.
And then came the topic of wedding dresses. I wasn't going to recommend where I bought mine since it was on the Cape. I LOVED my gown and I had a great experience at the shop but it's kind of a haul to drive to. Long story short, I said I would send the link to the store to the new bride. While googling it, I learn the shop had recently relocated from Mashpee to Scituate. Great news since it's less of a haul! I'm hoping she goes to Meredith's so that I can live vicariously through her.
I left our event preparations and thanked them for a lovely walk down memory lane. I have to take that walk more often.
P.S. My wedding gown is currently being cleaned and restored and I'm only now starting on our album in an effort to get it done before our 5th anniversary. Better late than never!

The Outside World

Check out my best helper at the grocery store. She held a lemon for most of the trip which was a HUGE help to me (wink, wink). We all know it would be easier for me to go by myself but we started to bring Marin to acclimate her to the "outside world" when she had some stranger anxiety. Since our weekday lives are heavily scheduled and tight on time, we tend to become homebodies on the weekend. But we have chores and errands that are easier to do on the weekend which means we head into the "outside world." Marin seems to be getting used to crowds. She won't flash a big grin at the people who say hello but she'll blow them kisses from here to the moon.
